18-Carat Gold HTC One Limited Edition Goes Official

HTC One, the latest flagship smartphone from the Taiwanese handset vendor, is a highly appealing device, that’s for sure, but it seems that it can be better, and an 18-Carat Gold Limited Edition that went official today proves that.

The mobile phone was launched so as to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Mobo Awards, and one unit will be presented to the winner of Best Newcomer category sponsored by HTC on October 19, as HTC explains on its website.

What should be noted right from the start, however, is the fact that there will be only five 18-Carat Gold HTC One Limited Edition units produced.

The model is valued at £2,750 ($4,420 / €3,260) and comes with gold plating on both the front and the back panels, it seems. Furthermore, there’s a laser-etched MOBO 18 logo placed on the back of the device.

“The best artists have always been given gold discs to celebrate their success, but today most people listen to music on their phone. We wanted to celebrate that fact,” Phil Blair, HTC president, Europe Middle East and Africa, said.

“We're sure the winning MOBO artist will love their unique phone and we will even be giving a lucky member of the general public the chance to get their hands on one soon too."

The gold flavor of HTC One has been built in collaboration with Goldgenie, an aftermarket customization company.

The company is selling Gold and Platinum versions of HTC One on its website, with price tags starting at £1,895 ($3,050 / €2,250) for the Gold iteration, and going up to £1,995 ($3,200 / €2,370) for the Rose Gold and £2,095 ($3,370 / € 2,480) for the Platinum variants.

The outer design of the smartphone is the only thing that is changed in these expensive variations, while the internal hardware and capabilities remain unchanged.

This means that users will still enjoy a 4.7-inch full HD screen and a quad-core processor inside the phone. It also sports 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and an UltraPixel camera on the back.
